"To my mind, the life of a lamb is no less precious than that of a human being."
— Mahatma Gandhi
"Mary had a little lamb
Its fleece was white as snow..."

I am off to Brisbane tomorrow! Unfortunately, only for one night and no time to visit the city or see the sights, but at least I will have another Veterans Administration exam done and finished. They are a little harder now that I’m out of the United States. In Australia, VA certified doctors are few and far between. But I get to travel to a different area, so there’s that.
All of the above to say - this isn’t going to be much of a Substack column, more when I return. But I had to share this video I just took while out in the side yard. I could hear the baby bleats, so I stuck my head around the corner, walked very quietly and managed to capture the hungry little lambs.
Twins! And a very patient and nimble Mama Ewe. Check it out. Sound up! Enjoy, all my fellow humans raised on Disney movies.
I have named them Lucy and Lily. Assuming they’re both girls. They’re too cute to be boys, right? And I think the mother is more of an Ethel in this sitcom.
Herr Zen and I have been enjoying an Australian reality show called The Farmer Wants a Wife - five bachelor farmers looking for love, and they end up with four women each in their various houses competing to be the wife at the end. I love it - not as much gratuitous sex and nastiness as the uber competitive American shows, but just enough sass and straightforward truths to make it interesting AND heart tugging.
I’m also learning a lot of Aussie slang, which will be helpful down the road. That’s the only reason I’m watching. Honest!
ANYWAY, last night one of the women had to leave the sheep farm, she couldn’t take their frightened faces as the farmer herded them into the enclosure. After living next door to these cuties for the last two weeks. . . I so get it. Sniff. (Probably didn’t help that she’s also vegetarian. And pretty sure she wouldn’t have made the final cut. Unless the farmer’s an idiot.)
Not the episode we watched, but if you want to get a sample, here you go. I warn you, they are addictive!
