It sounds as if you’ve had a full and exciting life- a lot of courage needed in your choices. I believe in a sense of karma and we will usually be glad we did the “nice” choice.
Yes, you don't wake up at 0300 in the morning wondering why you did or didn't do something if you go the nice route. I think I am gradually working out that I don't need to be nice and do everything I'm asked, I can pick and choose. But for emergencies or real need, the answer should always be yes if I'm physically able. I talked to a friend yesterday, she cut out of all of her volunteer commitments, just playing golf, bridge and traveling. She says she's waiting to see which ones she misses. So far, nada. HAH!
